Think about a time when you made a claim or gave an opinion, but someone asked you, “Why?” or “How do you know?” Describe the situation. What evidence did you use to support your point, and why is explaining your evidence just as important as providing it?

Prompt Response: One time my friends and I were talking and I said that studying with a group is better than studying alone because it helps me understand the material more. When my friend asked me how I knew, I explained that before an AP environmental science test, I studied with a few classmates and we quizzed each other on the topics we were struggling with. When I didn't understand a question, one of my friends explained in a way that made more sense to me. I used this experience as evidence because I could see that studying with others helped me understand the material and feel more prepared for the test. Explaining evidence is important because just saying the group studying works would not prove my point. Instead explaining what actually happened showed why my evidence supported my claim.

Summary: Today in class we discussed how important it is to be able to justify your evidence.

Reflection: I thought the cases we looked at were really interesting and thought it was cool how the lawyer was able to use the other side's "evidence" and turn it into his own. I also thought it was cool to hear about the perspectives of various people in the class on "good killing".
